Mid Park Hospital Dumfries
Midpark Hospital is a new mental health facility that sits at the edge of the historic Crichton Campus in Dumfries. Midpark serves a wide range of clinical needs including acute psychiatric care and dementia care.
The building is organised around a series of courtyards (all designed by erz), each space serving a different ward and responding to specific clinical needs.
Much recent research demonstrates the beneficial effects of well designed green space for healing environments. The outdoor spaces at Midpark actively support and enhance clinical practice.
At Midpark the different landscape spaces incorporate: memory walks, growing spaces, sensory planting, intimate seating spaces, gathering and activity spaces, shelters, sports facilities, woodland walks and views and connections to the wider landscape.
Erz also worked with Charles Jencks to help realise his monumental landscape sculpture at the site entrance.
