Hartlaw Courtyard
In spring 2013 Southside Housing Association engaged erz to undertake a study of the Hartlaw Crescent area of Cardonald in Glasgow. The brief called for a masterplan for external areas that will steer future re-invigoration of the neighbourhood. The study explored the outdoor spaces in the neighbourhood with the goal of bringing them into positive use that suit the current residents - for example play, gardening, exercise, education, social events etc.
Whilst the focus was on ‘green’ spaces, there was a wider need to re-examine circulation, landuse and facilities that tie the entire neighbourhood together. There were therefore three distinct strands to the project; a townscape study, a community engagement and consultation process, a masterplan for the entire area.
The masterplan was well-received by the client and residents and the first phase of works was implemented in early 2015. These works focussed on one of the residents courtyards and associated entrance spaces.
