Greyfriars Gardens
Proof that a good growing space can be designed for any situation, the design brings human scale and sense of place to a large derelict site, surrounded by building works.
We worked closely with many stakeholders, the diversity reflecting the dense urban nature of the site.
The scheme includes rainwater harvesting, a communal shelter, large storage units, composting facilities and a range of growing spaces. A small lawn and picnic area enables play and informal use. Habitat value was significantly improved through the inclusion of a large area of new meadow planting.
New developments built around the gardens create the feeling of a city oasis. The garden is intensely used by individuals, groups and businesses in the Merchant City.
