Carlibar & Centenary Parks, Barrhead
erz were appointed by East Renfrewshire Council to undertake a study of Carlibar and Centenary parks in the centre of Barrhead, to explore how the use of these spaces can be increased.
The great potential of these strategically well-located riverside spaces was largely unrealised before we came to work on the project. The parks are in close proximity to the main High Street, though they are not visible from this well-used pedestrian area. They are further separated by significant level changes for access and blank building elevations walls and fences to the site boundary.
Our study generates a clear strategy and master-plan proposals to stitch the parks into the fabric of the town centre and to redefine them as a focus of public and civic life in Barrhead. Our designs are founded on the examination of the historical evolution of Barrhead, whilst also taking account of anticipated changes.
