The Pond and Beyond project involved the restoration of a derelict hospital pond and surrounding landscape to create a leafy, calm and bio-diverse sanctuary for staff, visitors and patients.

erz created a wider masterplan for access and biodiversity at the RAH campus. This project delivers phase one, setting a template for future sustainable management and better use of the outdoors for clinical purposes, therapies and wellbeing. The pond has become a focus for rest and respite, and the hospital’s staff hub has been moved to open directly onto our new paths and seating.

“As we move into spring, vegetation around the pond will begin to grow and turn it into a green haven for people and wildlife alike. The area will be a peaceful and relaxing spot, ideal for a short walk or for spending some time sitting outside… It has been well known for many years that time spent in the outdoors has huge benefits for our physical and mental wellbeing, so I’m delighted that this stunning new space will soon be available for patients, staff and the wider community to enjoy.”
