A two-kilometre boardwalk across Balgray Reservoir, linking Newton Mearns to Barrhead for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians. This work was developed in partnership with artist Alec Finlay and surface designers Bespoke Atelier.

A technical challenge, the boardwalk needs to slot between a busy road and a historic reservoir, whilst offering a safe and enjoyable experience. This is a strategic link between the two settlements, and our work involved extensive co-design processes with both communities, including local schools. The project is an exemplary combination of art, design, and engineering.

Aerial views demonstrate the careful placement of the boardwalk on the historic reservoir dam wall.

Poetry and land art enliven the views across the reservoir.

Surface designs and textures were developed through print workshops with the community.
