erz worked with Page/Park Architects on this feasibility study, which considered the potential re-organisation of the existing Caledonian University campus. The concept refocuses the university around a new iconic public space at the heart of the campus. The design of the space is informed by research of the history of the site and proposes the excavation of part of the former quarry, which at one point housed Buchanan Street Rail Station. The space, defined by the exposed rock face, incorporates a series of stepped and ramped terraces, a planted Caledonian Forest and a series of outdoor glass pavilions for study, exhibition etc. The design shuffles and references previous incarnations of the site, to create an altogether new and unique space within the city. The space roots the university in the city and profoundly redefines the identity of the campus. erz also worked closely with Page/Park architects to evolve the concept and urban strategy for a new university campus in the east end of Glasgow. The proposed campus is focused around a terraced learning landscape stepping down to the river. The scheme evolved from the concept of unpacking the university activities into the landscape spaces and creating a fluid and inviting transition between indoor and outdoor space.
